Kiera’s ChristmasBirthday Party

18 Dec 2012

A couple of random iPhone snaps to remember the awesomeness of the night.

Oh YOU KNOW there were some amazing Christmas cookies…

Awww. (Behind Chief you can see the photobooth backdrop)

Surprise Guest! UJ!
Whaaat!? Such a fun surprise!
And we got Aunt Pam on the phone, and it was some great Gott family love.

There are much better photos over here at (the
NEW & IMPROVED) Natural Light Photography Website!

We put the kids down in Kiera & Cole’s bed so we could stay longer…

Fun times. Happy Holidays, and the best year ever (twentynine!) and a new
apartment layout, and festive jammies, Cherry M&Ms?!, ancient rap reggae, best friends, family, and a new NLP website…

dare I say?

Gingerbread Houses

17 Dec 2012

Not Like Mom Used To Make.

But, still super fun. Trader Joe’s Kits have the genius of architectural gravity on their side.
You can erect the walls, raise the roof, and put the candy on with no waiting.

Nanu, thank you so much for coming over and helping me uphold the tradition!
And for bringing candy too – We just made it!
The “giant” amount of icing I made? Was just enough. (#Itoldyouso)

The kids want to eat these SO BAD.
I told them they need to wait until the evening of the 24th.

Poll: Shall I keep my word, or shall I cave early?

The Apple Juice Tea Party

11 Nov 2012

(all photography by Cole & Kiera of Natural Light Photography)

Lucy turned Three and we had a “tea party” birthday party for her.
She got nervous ahead of time that she would actually be made to drink tea.
So we changed the name, and all was right in the universe.

Thank you, Kiera, for Bringing It with the little tea pots and monogrammed teacups!
It wouldn’t be a party without your cookies!
The tea bags with jimmies?! #cuteoverload

And thank you Cole (& Kiera too) for taking photos!
Kristi taught me a long time ago that you simply cant take pics at your own party.
It so nice to have a pro… :) Thanks, Bro.

Last, and most of all, thanks, Mark, for the tables and chairs from Laurel Hill!!
I’m sure there’s more, but let’s just get to the photos already.

Lucy had a really fun time with her girlfriends.
She was sad that Dominic didn’t join us. But she totally got that it was a girl party. She received amazingly cute and wonderful gifts, and I would blog about them, but that’s tacky. :)
Lucy did have a small ‘diva dip’ during the dancing, but otherwise she help up pretty well for having 8 guests!

Did anyone notice, in the photos, the wooden desk being used as a sideboard to hold cookies and scones? Opi and Omi completely re-furbished that desk for me! I originally received the desk as a gift from Harriet. It was a writing desk, and the top was slanted at an angle. Because of the slope, I never really used it, but it was so cute that I couldn’t part with it. One day I asked Mark’s parents if the top could be removed and replaced with a new (flat) top. They actually did one better: They used the original top, and repaired the whole thing in the process! It’s amazing – a labor of love. Thanks Omi & Opi!!

Sources: Yes, the scones were from Arizmendi. The little sweets were from Trader Joe’s. The homemade cupcakes were from a box, but the cute sugar flowers make all the difference. Also the straws, cupcake liners and plastic roses. Lucy’s dress (and later t-shirt) are J.Crew. The ‘Tea Table’ table cloths: Thank you Bobbie for lending me the cross stitch table cloth! It was *Just* the right thing! Super authentic. Underneath is just some sale yardage from Serena & Lily. We also made great use of Bobbie’s plate stackers. The toy tea set was a gift from Kristi (fisher price). Lucy loves it! The gold spoons and a couple other items were from a Kamei, restaurant supply store on Clement. The China service for 8 was borrowed from a very trusting friend. Thanks Belinda! The favors hats were cheap, so I embellished them with flowers from Forever21. Lucy’s beautiful white hat was from Blissful Bonnets. Really Nice, and it got here quick. Anything else I missed? ;)

Thanks for coming everybody! Happy Birthday Lucy! Enjoy being Three!

Lucy is 3 – Plus 2 Carnivals and Soccer

So many photos. I’m sorry but I’m just going to dump them in a virtual pile.
There is no way to do captions like this, but if you have a question, ask it in the comment section and I’ll reply.

ps –
Oscar learned to play Happy Birthday on the piano. Here is an early recording:

One More Birthday Event For Oscar

28 Sep 2012

In Oscar’s class, they celebrate all the birthdays for the month on the last Friday.

I baked some XL chocolate chip cookies. Kiera hooked me up with the deluxe packaging (thanks!!). I used some old green paper that I had left over from Christmas cards three years ago. I thought it struck a nice balance between snazzy and homespun. Mark said: “Dude, they’re 2nd graders. They won’t care”

That’s Oscar’s teacher Prudence, and Natalie. Her birthday was Sept. 6th.
(I was kicking myself that I didn’t figure things out… I should have written Happy Birthday Oscar & Natalie! Oh well, mental note for next year.)

The class sings Happy Birthday 3 times.

The first one is in English, the second in Italian, the third is “silly”. You can click this to see it larger.

Oscar probably enjoyed passing out the cookies even more than eating them.

See all those girls on the left? I Love them. I should have tried for a better pic of them, but time was flying, and I’m lucky to have got what I got!

I’m so proud of my son! Seven!

I think he has great classmates.

It was a quick peek into the school day that I don’t often get to see. They’re all such great kids, I wish I had time to hangout with them more!

Oscar’s Check-up at Dr. Ernster’s

22 Sep 2012

All is good – nothing to report. Oscar is 80th percentile in weight and 75th percentile in height. Perfect sight and hearing. Dr. Ernster loved all the good activities Oscar has going on (Piano, Italian, Soccer, etc.)
He especially was excited about the piano lessons. We talked about it for a while.
At the end, Dr. Ernster said there would be no need for any shots. Oscar audibly exhaled, and relaxed.
We laughed, apparently Oscar had been nervous about that the whole time.

Then Oscar got his flu snifter and we were on our way.

I had promised to take Oscar out for ice cream to celebrate finishing his first piano book.
We went to Toy Boat (Clement and 5th) while Lucy finished her day at Laurel Hill.
We talked about how different and nice it felt hanging out just the two of us.

After, we had some time so we wandered over to the Sloat nursery on 3rd.
That was really fun. We hung out for almost an hour, wandering among all the beautiful plants.
(Mark would NEVER go for that.)

Oscar picked out a succulent. He was so into it, how could I resist?
