Oscar the Second Grader

20 Aug 2012

Off to a good start! I like his teacher a lot (that’s her in the photos – Prudence). Drop off is in the upper yard – and if you didn’t know – that’s kind of a big deal. I haven’t checked out the classroom yet (it’s off limits to parents until ‘back to school night’). We got Tamir in our class again, so that’s fun. Oscar reports everything is great. His seat is by the water fountain, “so if I get thirsty, it’s easy.” Here’s to a happy, hydrated year.

(They both picked out their outfits, entirely. I will try to have some sway tomorrow, on Lucy’s first day.)

Big hellos

Tamir!

The Kapok Tree

23 May 2012

While I was gone on my Girls Weekend to Ashland, Mark and the kids were busy. Among the soccer games and meals and other stuff, there were some important things I was sorry to miss.

Mark took photos of the Art exhibit. I put them in with that post.

And, Oscar was pretty much the star of his class play, The Kapok Tree.
The class worked hard to learn their lines, and make their set & costumes.
This was Oscar’s first play!
Mark took two movies:

Part one – the introduction
(don’t worry – it’s not crooked)

Part two – the play. (Almost 15 minutes. Oscar comes on at about 1:15.)

Also, Allix and Stuart (a.k.a. Uncle Mac’n’Cheese) came to town (They live in the UK).
Kristi got to see them for about 30 minutes!

Community Arts and Science Day

22 May 2012

I really like this day at school – it’s executed extremely well, and everyone gets to enjoy a great day. Last year I volunteered to be a chaperone of a group, and was happy to do it again!

The parents get treated to the most delicious udon, made by parents on site.

Oscar did his first Egg Drop, with Brayden!

This is the entry, made 2 days earlier.

This is what’s inside

I didn’t hang around for the actual drop, but here is the text info between me and Brayden’s mom, Belinda ;)

Camping With Clarendon SC’s 1st Grades

22 May 2012

We had so much fun, and Oscar wants to go back again, asap.
I considered it a “warm up” for real camping, because this was too easy!
This is where we stayed, in Cloverdale:
http://winecountrykoa.com/
The kabins have electricity, and are even nicer than the Lair. Oscar ran around, or biked, unsupervised, with his buddies. Well, not completely unsupervised, – all the parents participated in an informal zone defense. The kids played pick up wiffle ball, and who knows what else. Something called Everybody It Tag. It was awesome to hang out with the families.
We got to leave Lucy with Omi & Opi, so we could relax, and drink, and not worry about Lucy kamikazeing into the lake. Thanks Omi! (Lucy did great)

Just Arriving

Pretty enough, plus a fountain too.

Oscar’s Poor Public School

02 May 2012

Clarendon is hurting for money, more than ever before.
*Will you help?*

I just got this:
(note: its a photo – the link wont work)

WE ARE ROOM 103! The worst class!

Leap is our cash fundraising program name (I forget what it stands for).
http://www.secondcommunity.org
is where you can donate online,
or send a check to me. Make it out to “SCPA”.

The donation is tax-deductable (I can give you the info)

I will spare you the details of what the families need to pay for, because the state wont.
Trust me when I say this is a good cause!

And thanks for you generosity, in any amount.
:)

Fort Funston Field Trip

19 Apr 2012

Oscar’s class went for an all-day field trip to Ft. Funston on Monday. Naturalists showed them all kinds of cool stuff. They pet a chinchilla, hiked all the way down to the beach, studied the native plants, and played games like “Bat and Moth”.
At 5pm, all the families joined the kids. We made dinner together, and sat around the campfire. After s’mores, the kids got a Night Hike, with flashlights and trivia games. Thanks Sue, and parents, for an amazing field trip!
