Blue Angels

08 Oct 2010

Fleet Week!

We had our own little field trip up the hill today. I drove the kids up to Twin Peaks to look for Blue Angels. I was tired of having them overhead, but only for .8 of a second before they went out of view. Also, I wanted to show Oscar the concept of an air show before he developed a hunted feeling.

Oscar’s school is right by Twin Peaks, so at 3:40 on the drive home, I took a right instead of going straight. We got the last parking spot in the top lot, and hurried to the rail in hopes of catching the last 10 minutes.

It was Lovely. Gorgeous day, and Beautiful airplanes over the whole city. I didn’t have my camera with me since it was so spontaneous, (and too bad no camera in my phone…), but it was nice to be able to enjoy my kids for a moment without hunting for a good photo the whole time.

here, this is exactly what we saw, in case you want a visual:

UPDATE

We have thoroughly enjoyed the Blue Angels. Oscar made lots of use of the Viewing Deck up our back stairs. Here are our home versions:

More About Soup

Cute voice mail from Nanu the other day. Kind of a classic actually. To be honest, this is how my mom taught me to cook. Anyways, she popped in on Friday on her lunch break. I sent her home with some of the chicken broth that I made the other day. She called me a little later to say thanks, but I was out and missed her call. Here’s the message (which, I should mention, does not play on a traditional answering machine. I just get an email.)

Art Class – Thursday Afternoons

01 Oct 2010

Even though I promised myself I would not enroll Oscar in any extra classes this fall, I had to sign up for this. The art class is directly after school, in the art bungalow, with his regular school art teacher. Ms. Ruth drops him off on her way to ‘Pick Up’ in the courtyard. I come at 4:30 to get him. Easy! So many kids were signed up for Tues. and Wed. class that the art teacher, Ms. Ellen Weinstein, offered a Thursday class. We, obviously, had no problem switching. So Oscar is one of only 12 kids in the class. It was total harmony when Lucy and I showed up today. Here’s what he made:
