We stayed at the Kiahuna Plantation in Poipu, on Kauai.

I really wanted to use this song for our slideshow, (‘On Top Of The World’, by Imagine Dragons,) because of a memory I have from when I was young.
My family was vacationing in Hawaii (different island) and Dad had driven the rental car out onto a big mountain top of black lava. I don’t remember other people – we had the place to ourselves. The view was incredible, and we were all really happy. The Tears For Fears song came on on the radio, ‘Everybody Wants To Rule The World’. We opened all of the car doors so we could hear it nice and loud. It was so epic that it stuck with me: the moment, the feeling of being out there, with my family, and dancing to our own personal soundtrack. We felt like it was playing just for us! I guess now you can have any song you want at any time, but then it seemed like a small miracle.

So, when I first heard this Imagine Dragons song, I knew it would be my Hawaii song :) It was practically on repeat.
What about you? If you have any songs attached to your vacation memories, I’d love to hear!

Sebastopol Supermoon

24 Jun 2013

b-IMG_7068

The largest full moon of 2013, a so-called “supermoon,” lit up the night sky this weekend, and we got to see it in a clear night in Sebastopol. The moon arrived at “perigee” — the point in its orbit bringing it closest to Earth, a distance of 221,824 miles.

The moon typically reaches perigee once each month, but this lunar perigee was the moon’s closest to Earth of 2013. And, the moon officially turned full at 7am on Sunday. The close timing of the moon’s perigee and its full phase are what will bring about the biggest full moon of the year, a celestial event popularly defined by some as a “supermoon.” The moon appeared about 12.2 percent larger than it will look on Jan. 16, 2014, when it will be farthest from the Earth during its apogee. Oscar: “Full Moon’s are cool.”

Happy Father’s Day Chief!

21 Jun 2013

Awesome, right?
I know I’m doing the posts in reverse order.. This year Father’s Day was on the 16th.
But The most important thing to note is that we did not smoosh Chief’s Father’s day in with Chief’s Birthday. Two separate events.
Yay us.

We surprised Chief at an old favorite, Picante.

The trick was, we went a day early.

It’s okay, Chief isn’t picky.

And yeah, we got one with Nanu too! :)

Happy Birthday Chief – June 20th

20 Jun 2013

I put that “June 20th” up there, because I’ve never known anyone more in love with the date of their birthday.
So, through the years, I’ve tried to include it as much as I can.

We enjoyed a Thai food feast before sending Chief and Madie off to the Giant’s Game.

Madie and I picked up a chocolate cake, mostly for the photo op.
It was crazy delicious, but I really wanted the singing and candle for the kids.
Even thought we were all pretty full, we squeezed in a snappy rendition of “Happy Birthday To You”.
Georgia liked it so much, she started giving out high fives, which made the moment even sweeter.

And lately I’m all about sneaking in photos of Madie’s baby Bun..
