Oscar the Second Grader

20 Aug 2012

Off to a good start! I like his teacher a lot (that’s her in the photos – Prudence). Drop off is in the upper yard – and if you didn’t know – that’s kind of a big deal. I haven’t checked out the classroom yet (it’s off limits to parents until ‘back to school night’). We got Tamir in our class again, so that’s fun. Oscar reports everything is great. His seat is by the water fountain, “so if I get thirsty, it’s easy.” Here’s to a happy, hydrated year.

(They both picked out their outfits, entirely. I will try to have some sway tomorrow, on Lucy’s first day.)

Big hellos

Tamir!

Jacob in the A’s hat.

See ya after school!

No worries

Enzo the 5th grader! Last year at Clarendon!

Sweet Kiera sent over apple cookies – in time to make the morning lunchbox! Can you stand it?

Yum!

Instagram – Better Late Than Never

01 Aug 2012

I found the party :)

I gave the Instagram App a try this weekend, over a short So. Cal Road Trip.
It was fun! The trip AND the app.

It’s all photo based, and you only follow who you want to. It’s so easy I think I’ll be sticking with it. (I Hope I don’t blog less because of it!)

For those of you who want to “follow me” I’m @hunnyvale
And for those of you with no iPhone, here’s a sampling of what I posted:

Yes, the filters are cheap tricks. I feel like I’ve joined the Dark Side! You don’t have to use them. (We have a name for them: ‘Stupid Tone’) I thought I’d slum it In the name of fully trying it all out. Maybe It’s a guilty pleasure – like watching crap tv. I dunno. We’ll see.

P.S.
I like this blog, and her earlier post is pretty much the same idea.

Lucy’s First Bed

23 Jul 2012

We are NOT finished putting our house back together after the big ‘floor and paint re-do of 2012’, but I really wanted to get the kids sleeping in their new bedroom upstairs. The mudroom was nice (no, not really), but the crowded-like-sardines thing happening downstairs had to go! So, we got Lucy a “toddler bed”, which takes the crib mattress. It’s meant to be temporary, until we figure out how we want to do the room. (Matching twins, or bunk bed, or win the lottery and move to a 3 bedroom house.) It looks a little drab in the photos – but I’m confident it will look right in the end. My goal is to have it photo-and-blog-ready by the time school starts.

Oscar found this evening’s furniture building and arranging really fun. He’s aware of my Pinterest board for a shared kids room. He keeps suggesting items to pin, and he asked for “striking red’ paint on the wall. I’m happy he’s into it. For the record: He’s in favor of the built in bunk bed idea.

I didn’t make Lucy nap today, so she’d be nice and tired at bedtime. She drove us CRAZY while we put the beds together, but it worked – she fell asleep in less than 5 minutes of lights out.

I dug up the photos from March, 2007:

I still love that photo!

The Kapok Tree

23 May 2012

While I was gone on my Girls Weekend to Ashland, Mark and the kids were busy. Among the soccer games and meals and other stuff, there were some important things I was sorry to miss.

Mark took photos of the Art exhibit. I put them in with that post.

And, Oscar was pretty much the star of his class play, The Kapok Tree.
The class worked hard to learn their lines, and make their set & costumes.
This was Oscar’s first play!
Mark took two movies:

Part one – the introduction
(don’t worry – it’s not crooked)

Part two – the play. (Almost 15 minutes. Oscar comes on at about 1:15.)

Also, Allix and Stuart (a.k.a. Uncle Mac’n’Cheese) came to town (They live in the UK).
Kristi got to see them for about 30 minutes!

Oscar Looses Tooth!

25 Apr 2012

Our first lost tooth!
So exciting.

The best part is when I came in to his room to tuck him in tonight.
He tells me excitedly, “Okay! So I put the tooth under my pillow, but not so far under that you couldn’t grab it…”
I said, “Awwww Thats So Cute!” and he immediately flushed in embarrassment and said, “Never-mind! Forget I said anything!”

So cross your fingers the Tooth Fairy comes tonight!
