Beautiful Day In Napa

28 Jun 2011

The Schmidts invited us up to enjoy the pool and a barbeque at Carmen’s home in Silverado. We got our first swimming of the summer! The weather was absolutely perfect.

The Kellys came along too – aren’t they so cute?

Helmut caught a baby rattlesnake! It wanted to bite us, but it couldn’t get out of the bucket. He took this pic:

I had a couple of drinks, relaxed, and promptly forgot to take any more photos until we were leaving. The food was amazing. (Wish I had a photo.) Carmen made her Salvadoran baked beans. Lucy ate steak and ribs!

The sun is setting so late these days, and of course we weren’t watching the clock. The kids were up past 9. Counting the fact that Lucy only slept 30 minutes in the car, and swam for a couple hours, it might as well have been midnight for her. Thanks honey for driving us home safely! :) Also, thanks Jamey and Helmut – awesome day!!

Summer Vacation! (Last Day Picnic)

29 May 2011

Oscar’s last day of actual Kindergarten was Thursday.

Here they are lining up for the last time :) awww, so sentimental.

This is Barbara, Oscar’s Italian teacher. She put their years work into a book for them to keep.

Then Friday we went to Golden Gate Park for a bbq and picnic. The spot was beautiful – just adjacent to Stow Lake. So many flowers were blooming, and the waterfall rushing. Nana tagged along for the fun. The sun came out and it was awesome. Both Ruth and Suzy’s classes were there – which was great because there will be a mixing up of the classes in the fall! I know Oscar really likes a few of those guys (Hugo, Sonny, Dominic…) Thanks Ms. Ruth, it was a great year!

BIG Thanks to Philip Sabes, Jacob’s dad, for 5 or 6 of these photos! He took that last one of Amanda, (Tamir’s mom) walking with the crew. I love it!

CAS Day At Clarendon

13 May 2011

(click any of these smalls to see larger)

CAS is Community Arts & Sciences Day. It was a extremely well organized day, run by parent volunteers. I volunteered to be an escort, so I chaperoned a group of 6 kids to different workshops.

First we did a session called “insects” (my favorite, first thing in the am).

Not pictured: a hissing cockroach. Not kidding.

Next our schedule sent us to “Silly Putty” – run by Lucas & Rachel’s dad Robin!

Next was a fun flash mob of dancing, led by the Italian teacher, Barbara

Some older kids were doing fencing, which looked fantastic!

This was an arts ‘n’ crafts workshop, making “Eco Friendly Pins”.
With more than half the stuff made in China, I kept my critical
comments to myself, and enjoyed helping Oscar.

The last scheduled workshop was on the upper yard, with the SF fire dept. I secretly wished we had gotten assigned something that Oscar didn’t know so much about already. But it ended up being hilarious, because Oscar was the know-it-all who answered every question (correctly) and told at least 10 stories. A firefighter in the making.

Last was the Egg Drop, which was great to see. Oscar didn’t make an egg package, but maybe now that he knows the deal, he’ll be excited for one next year.
