Cora as Clara in the Nutcracker

05 Dec 2011

Tonight I got a special treat: Cora and her mom invited me to dress rehearsal for this weekend’s City Ballet performance of The Nutcracker. Cora said she wishes the rehearsal would have been in the theater (of course they’ll rehearse there too), but I enjoyed sitting front row in the studio! I felt wide eyed as I took in the scene. It was controlled chaos in the hall, with kids and costumes everywhere. But inside everyone was perfect and I could see every move, every muscle. Sitting so close to the dancers was amazing. My only complaint is that I didn’t bring a decent camera. These photos are almost too shameful to post. (Good thing my new Canon 60D Christmas present is on it’s way! Not a moment too soon!) Anyways, Cora, you’re the best Clara I’ve ever seen!! xxoo!

Lucy’s Ballerina Party

05 Nov 2011

A Huge Thank you to Matisse and Cora, our beautiful ballerinas, for making our party so fun and lovely!
Thank you to Jeanette for sending adorable ballet cookies, post haste! My other hero at the post office is Fairy Godmother Kristi, who sent the party favors – as you can see, they were way too cute.
Thank you to Cole and Kiera, for taking such pretty pictures – without which there would be no show (You can never take photos at your own party). I loved the party! Lucy did too – ” ‘Allerina Party! Cakes! Big Party!”
Last, Thanks Honey (Mark), for driving around, getting those huge pink balloons, and most importantly, for putting up the ballet barre in our living room (a.k.a. the dance studio), which totally passed the ballerina test. Hooray! You rock. xxoo

Nutcracker & Christmas Shopping

07 Dec 2010

Maria and Isabella treated Oscar and me to a terrific holiday outing on Saturday: ballet and shopping. Delightful!

We saw a performance by the San Francisco Youth Ballet, held at Mercy High School’s auditorium. It’s kid friendly, and had some very sweet and funny moments.

Oscar’s favorite part was the soldier and mouse battle. Of course.

After the dancing, we drove over to Fillmore Street, my favorite old stomping grounds. I miss that street! I used to walk it A Lot, 10 years ago.
We practically attacked the boulange Bay Bread for some must have snacks. Outside of France, they are the epicenter for the macaroon craze. We bought a few. I also dragged the group up to Peets. Mmmmmm. “Properly caffeinated” and so happy!

Maria and I noticed how easy and fun it was to just have our oldest kids with us. No strollers, no diapers. But more than that, it was nice to just have some quality time with the big kids.

Last we hit our main destination: Paper Source! No one did any major damage. (This night anyways).
The kids were running on sugar fumes at this point:

We will miss the Kellys over the holidays as they are off to Australia until the new year. This was a terrific chance to share a little holiday cheer. Thanks Mama!
