babyclothesapocalypse

16 Nov 2012

So last Monday I put on my battle gear…
To deal with this!

This is pretty much every bit of baby and kids clothes from Ava, Oscar and Lucy, since 2003.
I know, mom – Just say it:
“HOARDERS!”
We’ve had the bins squirled away, in some awesome storage spots around the house.
But things were getting messy, unknown and overwhelming.

I located, organized, donated, etc. and got the total bin count down.
I’m happy to report the situation is now back under control.

I may or may not have cuddled some of my favorite old Oscar items in a weak moment of missing my ‘little guy’.

The battle is won, but the war of kids crap rages on.
Over and out.

Lucy Interview

28 Jul 2012

I was making dinner the other night, but had to turn the burners down in order to faithfully record this spontaneous Q & A between brother and sister. I even did it covertly so as not to influence anything.

{Oscar} Lucy, how do you say Goodnight?
{Lucy} You read a bedtime story.

{O} Do you see the clouds outside?
{L} Yes, but they are not sparkling today.

[thats what led me to grab a pen]

{O} What about a tree?
{L} It’s blowing in the wind.

{O} How about our house?
{L} Because it’s getting fixed.
[she’s referring to our floor refinishing]

{O} What if we go to a park?
{L} Because I like a playground.

{O} What about a picture?
{L} Picture is a camera.

{O} Do you want some juice?
{L} Because I really like my juice sippy cup. It’s on the compiano.

{~end}

We don’t know why, but lots of Lucy nouns have a “com-” prefix. Mark thinks it has to do with “computer”. Partial list: com-giraffe, com-ice cream, com-banana, com-phone, com-backpack.
These cute word things are short lived. It’s hard to remember, but not long ago she used to say “Allerina” Alloween, abaloons, and more, but now I forget!

Still, nothing beats Oscar’s not liking pizza. Yet. ;)

Chores & Allowance

01 Apr 2012

It has been brought to our attention that Oscar needs to have Jedi status.
(don’t we all?)
Specifically, he has reached the higher levels on the “free” versions of his video games, and in order to continue on his quests, needs to pay to play. Working backwards, you will quickly see how we arrived at the subject of Allowance.

Help me! How do I navigate this? He is eager to do ‘chores’ but only the fun ones, and only if they can be completed quickly. The above photo is his effort at setting the table before pancakes. Okay.
Now can he please go clean his room?

PS. Lucy is pouting because today was the first day of No Bottles.
She is a ‘big girl’, and we need to stop the madness. Last night she asked for one in the middle of the night! Enough is enough and it’s going to have to be cold turkey. We tried limiting them to a couple of times a day, but that just turned them into a controlled substance. So wish us luck this week! I predict rough seas…

Official Winner

22 Feb 2012

I was changing Lucy’s diaper and we were having a conversation.
I was telling her I would get a toy out of the closet so she wouldn’t have to bug Oscar.
I said, “do you know what game or toy you want?”
And she says, all wide-eyed and cute, “I want Max and Ruby, Mommy. It’s my best.”
“Max and Ruby is your best?”
“Yes, mommy. It’s my best!”

Flat Tire On Clement Street

16 Dec 2011

Let me start by saying It could have been waaaayyyy worse!

The day’s errands involved a trip to Clement, primarily to shop for live dungeness crab at Seafood Center. Parking in front of my favorite housewares and supply store was just a bonus (more on Kamei later.)

Oscar was at school, and Lucy and I had a little over an hour to spend shopping on Clement. We ducked into See’s candy, but the line was 9 people long. We left empty handed. Next we hit a Walgreen’s for some medicine for Lucy (she has athletes foot I think! poor girl). We also got some Christmas goodies, and some instant-gratification goldfish-crackers for a very peeved Lu Lu, who had seen ‘the light’ inside See’s.

Next up was the crabs, -seven of them,- for Kiera’s birthday party. They would eventually look like this:

But we weren’t there yet. The crabs were bagged up for us, (all 15 lbs. of them!), and Lucy and I headed back for the car.

To find this:

Specifically this:

I looked at my watch, iPhone, and saw it was 3:12.
My window to pick up Oscar at school is 3:25 until 3:40. Maaaaby 3:45. Shoot.
I call a taxi, my iHusband.

Mark arranges the plan – he calls Triple A and asks for a grace period on our expired service. Then he calls Omi & Opi, who come to our rescue in the form of Picking Oscar Up On Time!! Yay! So all I had to do was hang out, and watch Lucy play with the Kamei plastic stools. (She’s obsessed with stools – it was ideal.)

They’re so cheap, I almost went in and bought a stack to bring home with us – but I didn’t want to miss my man. My knight in Yellow armor..

Lucy and I watched the dude fix us all up.

I had to move the car seats to get at the tire tool, and BONUS! found my missing notebook! So Relieved!

With four Round wheels, we swung over to Omi and Opi’s house, who were just getting back home with Oscar.
Hooray! My heroes!

(For more birthday photos later that evening, head over here.)
