p.s. this morning she said. “Mommy’s Coffee! Hot!”
p.p.s. Madie thinks this is noteworthy: Lucy hasn’t said Star Wars (yet) but she can do one better. When the topic comes up, in conversation, or if Oscar is playing with a Star Wars toy, Lucy will start singing the theme song. DA Na DaNA, Daa Na DaNA… She wants you to know she knows it.
This morning after we drove Oscar to school, Lucy and I were snuggling in my bed. We’d played together for a while, and nap-time was approaching. I pretended to sleep and Lucy decided to not sleep. (Shocking.) Instead, she started to tell me everything she knew. She pointed around the room and named off household items like Clock, Pants, Picture, Keys, Flashlite, Tissues, Door, Pillow, etc. As you can imagine, I was kinda floored at this outpouring of vocabulary. Then, she starts to tell me family members. Can you see where this is heading?
She said Dada, Mommee, and then paused. I whispered Oscar? (which she never says)
Ah-car.
I said Lucy? She said Yu-cy.
I asked who else? (not quite believing my ears as it was)
Omi, Opi, NaNa, Chief (unbelievable cute ff sound), CoCo, GiGi, Ki-ah.
(pause)
Bob.
(Bob is the Crossing Guard at Clarendon – she has a crush on him and says Bye Bye Bob twice a day.)
So, can you believe it? Girlfriend has been holding out on us….
(Or maybe she’s just ready to talk.)
Oh and by the way, she’d like everyone to know that she can now say Rocket, not just Rah-Rah.
“Mommy, home!”
[my garage door opens, I begin to pull the car in]
“Daddy’s bike. Lucy go bike.”
[(to myself: wow. did she just say that?) “Sorry, sweetie, Daddy’s at work.”]
“Up. be-belt off. Cole Cole. Down!”
[“sure, we can go say hi”]
Lucy is makin’ a move these days. She has entered the game. She is climbing up on the chair, and jumping from it to the bed, with a tummy landing. She is putting her shoes on all by herself (and taking them off at will). She is jumping down stairs, causing me to go grey. And now, she’s talking about it. The only question remaining is when will she call Oscar by his name.
This morning I said, “c’mon guys, we gotta get in the car.” She said “Okay, let’s go, ‘cool!”
I love that she says Hi Bob to the crossing guard. Really cute.
