Long Weekend in Sonoma

22 Oct 2012

We caught the last bit of Indian Summer…

There was a nip in the air, so this move by Madie was brave.
(the pool was not heated as advertised!)

The fall oak trees were so pretty! I was so busy I never got around to a real “photography outing” like I had planned. I wanted to go for a walk with my camera and the kids. It’s okay. We went to the farmer’s market, we shopped in the square, we cooked, we barbecued, we ate, we watched sports, a movie and the new Nashville TV show. We swam, we jumped on the trampoline, we lay in the sun, we read magazines, we Instagrammed, and Lucy wore 999 different outfits. We had an amazing dinner alfresco, and celebrated Madie & Cole’s birthdays. Oscar said, “I love this house!”. And I got this oak tree photo with my iPhone. We left exceedingly happy, and full.

ALSO, we enjoyed a love affair with El Molino Central. The Enchiladas Suizas are something special.

Nanu, thanks for a great getaway!

Also, I haven’t blogged anything about the Giants lately, but we’ve been watching every game of the pennant race.
Mark is at Game 7 tonight, vs. the Cardinals.
I won’t write anything specific — it’s the eighth inning — but GO GIANTS!!

Family Camping Trip

19 Aug 2012

We all drove north on the 101 to a little campsite in Myer’s Flat, along the South fork of the Eel river.

Nanu and Chief scouted the site ahead of time, and chose it for it’s awesome swimming, which couldn’t be closer to the campsite unless we pitched tents on the riverbed. It was lovely! We all fell head over heels in love with our cute shade tree. (Anyone know what kind of tree that was?) Also, it’s just far enough from the Bay Area that it wasn’t as crowded as some of the other places in consideration. The sights and smells kept bringing me back to my childhood. (We even caught a frog, and a lizard that Lucy named Sue.)

We pitched our tents during the daylight, and Nanu came up at night with Mark, who had to work late.
Due to a super unfortunate scheduling snafu, Alex had baseball playoffs and had to miss the trip. We tried to re-assure ourselves that there can be many more trips, with lots of Alex time. Still, Al, you were Greatly missed!!

It was a short trip, cut even shorter by me. :( We were planning to stay til Monday, but I wimped out. Temps reached the hundreds, and the idea of packing and driving home solo convinced me to go back with Mark on Sunday afternoon. Had it only been 85, things may have been different. That’s my story. (also, for the record, the ‘Tent Olympics’ were taxing. I need one that’s “palatial”.)
Still, I’m ready to go again…
D’oh — school starts tomorrow…

Also worth noting – Cole’s camera broke, (!!) early on, and so the photos that are ‘standing in’ were taken by our assortment of iPhones and aging point-n-shoots.
eh. I didn’t bring my camera – the car was too full! Plus, we were all relaxing, and no pressure to take pictures was nice. This slideshow came together in spite almost no effort.

Thank you Kiera for the great music suggestion. Thanks C+K, Madie, and Nanu for contributing photos.

enjoy the show.

ps yes, I realize I spelled Myers wrong – I’ll fix it tomorrow!

Instagram – Better Late Than Never

01 Aug 2012

I found the party :)

I gave the Instagram App a try this weekend, over a short So. Cal Road Trip.
It was fun! The trip AND the app.

It’s all photo based, and you only follow who you want to. It’s so easy I think I’ll be sticking with it. (I Hope I don’t blog less because of it!)

For those of you who want to “follow me” I’m @hunnyvale
And for those of you with no iPhone, here’s a sampling of what I posted:

Yes, the filters are cheap tricks. I feel like I’ve joined the Dark Side! You don’t have to use them. (We have a name for them: ‘Stupid Tone’) I thought I’d slum it In the name of fully trying it all out. Maybe It’s a guilty pleasure – like watching crap tv. I dunno. We’ll see.

P.S.
I like this blog, and her earlier post is pretty much the same idea.

Where We’re At

20 Jul 2012

We are back from Camp July, and the house is painted!

Camp July Denver, 2012, was so much fun. It was a well deserved vacation with lots of swimming, shopping, cooking, drinking, swearing, all that good Camp July stuff. Hopefully it won’t take me a YEAR to post the photos! We even got a taste of the Rockies! So beautiful, and adventurous. Photos soon I promise.

Anyways, back to the house.
I know, crappy iphone photo, but IT MAKES ME HAPPY:

If you had told me this would be my kids room, even a couple months ago, I wouldn’t have believed you. It’s just exactly what I wanted. When does that happen?! (Thank you, Honey!!) Apparently it happens 7 years after you move in. The floors were literally giving us splinters, and once the floors were done, (during Marie & Alex’s Wedding!?!?) well then we could not let the opportunity pass to paint. Our stuff is all helter-skelter around the garage, and downstairs. Oscar and Lucy are sleeping in the mud room. The Piano is in the Kitchen!

I hope to to a “before and after” post with lots of photos.
But before that can happen I have Soooooooo much work to do! Happily, it’s all good stuff, and maybe we can lighten our load. Too many things have gotten oppressive! Salvation Army, here we come.

I feel like I should mention Oscar & Lucy, as this is their blog. Oscar knows everything and wants to play video games all day. Yawn.
Lucy (a.k.a. The Kraken) is asking to go to Laurel Hill every 30 minutes. She’s ready. I keep trying to explain how much summer we still have! Camping, Disneyland, and breaking news, Fiona is coming to town! Lots of cousins are in the kids’ future. :)

Ok, signing off from my folding table. (jiggle jiggle)
